Education

Education as a Pillar of Societal Development

Education is one of the most important drivers of community development and progress, both individually and collectively. It is a basic human right that must be available to everyone, as it plays a vital role in improving the quality of life across multiple dimensions.

Despite the challenges facing the education sector in Somalia, the country has witnessed tremendous development over the past two decades. However, there is still a pressing need to strengthen the educational infrastructure and increase the capacity and competencies of teachers and educational personnel.

These steps are essential to improving the overall quality of education and ensuring a bright future for future generations

In Somalia, the education sector has faced tremendous challenges, particularly after the collapse of the central government in 1991. This collapse led to a severe deterioration of the education system and the destruction of many schools across the country. Despite these hardships, continuous efforts by Somali intellectuals, the federal government, and both local and international organizations have contributed to the gradual improvement of education in Somalia.

The Role of the Tawfiq Foundation in Promoting Education in Somalia

The Tawfiq Foundation for Education and Development (TFED) is one of the leading organizations contributing significantly to the advancement of education at various levels across Somalia. The foundation has played an instrumental role in supporting and expanding access to quality education through a diverse range of programs and initiatives, including:

  • Establishing Formal Schools :TFED provides access to basic and higher education by establishing formal schools in the regions where it operates, ensuring that children receive structured and quality learning opportunities.
  • Establishing Quranic Schools: The foundation offers religious education to orphaned and underprivileged children by setting up Quranic schools that promote moral values and spiritual development.
  • Vocational Training Centers: Through the establishment of vocational training centers, TFED delivers practical skills training to youth and women, enabling them to become self-reliant and improve their livelihoods.
  • Scholarship Programs: Scholarships are offered to orphaned and disadvantaged children, granting them access to education they would otherwise be unable to afford, and helping them realize their full potential.
  • Training Courses and Workshops: TFED organizes workshops and professional development courses aimed at enhancing the competencies of teachers and educators by introducing them to modern teaching methods and educational practices.
  • Annual Quran Competitions: To encourage religious learning and memorization of the Quran, the foundation holds an annual Quran competition for children, fostering a spirit of learning and community engagement.

These initiatives have contributed significantly to raising educational standards and expanding educational opportunities for children and youth, and the Tawfiq Foundation plays a vital role in strengthening the capacity of the Somali community to overcome challenges and work towards sustainable development
